Squash
The University of Ottawa squash team is a recently established varsity club that aims to promote and enhance squash in the Ottawa and Gatineau areas. Our team combines competitive drive with team spirit, forming a dynamic and diverse group of athletes. We pride ourselves on fostering a culture where every player is supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow. While we train and compete with intensity, we also value the camaraderie and fun that come with being part of a close-knit team. Whether on or off the court, we’re committed to both individual development and collective success.
Competition
Gee-Gees Squash encompasses both the men’s and women’s teams, which compete against nine other universities across Ontario and Quebec. We participate in the Ontario Jesters University Squash League, consisting of four tournaments held between October and January, as well as the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship in February.
At tournaments, each team competes with their top 7 players, who are arranged in order of strength. Players then compete against the same number on the opposing team.
Furthermore, we encourage our players to compete in local and provincial individual tournaments by Squash Ontario and other squash organizations.
Practice information
The men’s and women’s teams train together 2 times a week at the Minto Sports Complex from September to April. In addition to team practices, players are expected to take part in competitive matches and maintain their fitness through training outside of scheduled sessions.
Tryout information
Team tryouts are typically held in early September, with exact dates announced on our Instagram account @geegeesquash prior to the start of the semester. To be eligible, participants must be admitted or registered University of Ottawa students.
